Lock up your children the BASS is back. Bigger, Heavier and with a great big inside booklet Lat. 39°29.8'S, Long. 147°19.3'E follows on where T:16 left off but is more developed in everyway.

Lat. 39°29.8'S, Long. 147°19.3'E is a highly suitable name for an album which deals with the big questions and the the big themes of life...self discovery,  identity, reality and time travel.

The summer groove of SOMEHOW sets the scene, but as usual things are not all that they seem and their is real bite in the lyrics. Originally called the Medieval Song the 8 MINUTE SONG's seems to have mandolins and harpsichords in it, it doesn't, they are all guitars. In sharp contrast METAPHOR sees the band in clattering form with all the amps turned up to 11, and a splendid 3 guitar solos at once moment.

WITH YOU is the nearest thing to a ballad, with pretty little guitar lines and great harmonies from Matt, of course it has that usual dark under belly 3lb BASS excel at, and near they end Iaons distorted guitars take over. OH YEAH is the first real epic of the album, and its in the sort of timing that does your head in, but its also really catchy. With great timpani and percussion from Len, and booming BASS line (Ziplex?) from Rodger, Iain finishes it all off with brooding guitar lines. Picking up the pace HOUSE could be a single if the band released them.

Beginning the second half of the album is The MAELSTROM, which is the biggest sounding thing the band have ever recorded. With layers and layers of feedback and guitars, its really angry and the music swells and sucks around Matt's impassioned vocals. The instrumental MCS will one day be used to score an American Cop show.

SPLITSCREEN is another epic with guitars that sound like the Western Front and drums that sound like they are being thump inside your very head. BOOKS I READ is just fantastic.

The longest track to be recorded by the band OK is also one of the most musically diverse pieces in the 3lb BASS canon. Leading off with a bouncy keyboard line, over which Matt's vocals are wonderfully odd. This leads into a fantastic keyboard solo from Iaon, which then joined by a really angry sounding guitar or two as the track begins to grow out of its quaint poppy opening into something much more scary. The climax to the piece is the mad noise section where all four of the band seem to be playing everything as loud as possible. nice.

UN2 is all about texture, and is a really beautiful piece. After the madness of the journey this album makes around Deal Island it sounds like the band have finally found their way home. Two lines have joined completely.

  Buyers Reviews:

   Well !!!!

 What can I say!!!!?

Let me start by saying that before I listened to the album I had a very
open mind.  Bearing in mind I have never heard the band perform before and I
found it hard to believe that little ole quiet Matty from school actually
had a voice?! (no offence Matt).

It is fab!!! some of the songs are better than others, my particular
favourites are 7 and 11*.  Matt's vocals are drowned out by instruments in some of the songs but on others when  the vocals really come through - it sounds really great!

The music is brilliant, you haven't been worried about experimenting.
Every song sounds different and is very influenced by REM (which is a good thing!).

I think the style is very Idlewild too!>
All in all an excellent and intriguing album.  I would definitely buy
the next one when it comes out!!!
